Phase two consultation for Moray’s community councils scheme launches.
Moray Council has launched the second stage of a public consultation on the future establishment of community councils in the region.
The local authority has a commitment to review the Moray Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils on a regular basis. This consultation focusses on arrangements for elections, roles and responsibilities and youth membership of Community Councils.
Any new scheme agreed will come into effect ahead of community council elections later this year and will remain in place until the next scheduled elections in 2029.
Revisions to the scheme of establishment have been made following an initial round of consultation at the end of 2024.
Now Moray Council is asking for views on the redrafted scheme by the deadline of 12pm on Friday 25 July.
The final scheme will be put before Moray Council for approval in August and will be in place for the community council elections due to take place in September/October 2025.
Deputy Leader of Moray Council, Cllr Donald Gatt, said: “Community Councils already play a crucial role in our local democracy, and that input is only going to get stronger in future. I would encourage anyone with a view on community input on local issues to have a look at this consultation and give your feedback on how our Community Councils operate. This is also an ideal time to find out more about our Community Councils, and what’s expected of them, before we ask local representatives to come forward for election later this year.”
More information on the consultation and review can be found online or by contacting Moray Council’s Community Council Liaison Officer on 07890 275547 or communitycouncils@moray.gov.uk.
