Cullen Library User Group

On Thursday the 17th of April Moray Council’s Sports and Cultural Services Manager, Kim Slater chaired the first of what will be a set of quarterly meetings of the Cullen Library User group. Also in attendance were Kathleen Robertson Moray Council leader, Cllrs Theresa Coull and Donald Gatt. Rick Fletcher Buckie area libraries manager was also there from the council

The local community was represented by a number of residents

The aim of the group is to look for ways to improve usage and standardise the service provided by the library at Cullen. The meeting was very successful and a wide range of ideas were exchanged aimed at improving usage of the library, and as Kim Slater stated, also aimed at ensuring the library meets the needs of the local community.

Part of the review process is to standardise the opening hours, Cullen library is likely to be classed asa small community library where 12 hours opening time would be applied. This matches the current position. From the discussions it is clear that Cullen library is safe following the recent campaign to fight closure.

It was stated that Cullen library was unique in the Moray libraries as it was co-located in the Cullen Community Centre.

The discussions were constructive and positive. The campaigns to save the Moray Libraries has had a positive impact on the thinking of Moray Council. What we are looking for now are ideas to expand the range of services and activities within the library.
