BT Consultation on Phone Boxes

Note: Phones boxes in Cullen not affected

A consultation has been launched into BT’s proposals to remove 11 public payphones from across Moray.

Moray Council has been invited by the telecoms firm to provide feedback and is asking residents for their views on the proposed changes.

The phone boxes affected are:

  • Victoria Street, Craigellachie
  • Outside Town Hall, High Street, Lossiemouth
  • Seatown, Lossiemouth – red phone box
  • Auchenhalrig, Spey Bay – red phone box
  • By Post Office, The Square, Tomintoul – red phone box
  • Outside No.84, B9011, Findhorn – red phone box
  • Outside 6 Bay View, Findhorn – red phone box
  • The Square, Dufftown
  • The Square, Aberlour
  • Outside 2 Dunbar Street, Lossiemouth
  • Farquhar Street / Harbour Street, Hopeman

There is also the opportunity for community groups to adopt a red phone box for £1.

Chair of Moray Council’s Planning and Regulatory Services Committee, Cllr David Gordon, said: “This consultation gives communities the chance to highlight any ongoing value these phone boxes may provide, or to express an interest in adopting one for an alternative use. There are a number of examples of imaginative uses out there already and I would encourage people to share their views, to help inform our response to BT.”

Residents can take part in the consultation through an online survey, by emailing louise.dunn@moray.gov.uk or phoning 07976 235735.
