What became clear through the recent A98 crossing survey, was that there were more issues related to roads and pedestrian safety than just crossing points. At the meeting of the community council in Deskford Halls where the crossing survey results were discussed it was agreed to developing a wider engagement and campaign. The closeness to the nomination process and formation of the next administration of the community council means that it may be best to start the campaign work after the 28th October.
Historic Vehicle parked on Seafield Street.
Once point that was clarified after requests from the community regarding the truck park on the main road, was that according to Police Scotland it is legally parked and there is nothing they can do about the vehicle.
Moving forward with the issues around crossing, parking and 20mph limits
Once the new community council forms in late October, the roads issue will be a prioity for the new administration, so watch this space. If you have any opinions please share them by logging them below in the comments form.
The outline plan would be:
- Meeting of the volunteers who said they would work on the camapaign
- Public Meeting an the issues to identify objectives
- Build a focus group
- Engage with community on campaign graphics and strapline, maybe run a competition to get a logo designed by school children.
- Look at fundraising events.
It is clear from the engagement about the crossing places that residents have opinions and are willing to share them with the community council.

How do you become a volunteer? I’m concerned about the speed of cars on North Castle Street
Kate thanks for the question.
The best way forward for a community event like this is to have a public meeting and ask for volunteers to come forward and for an action group.
We will need people with all sorts of skills, IT, Graphics, Writing copy, making tea and coffee, and the most important one is bringing good old common sense to the group. All ages and genders and positions on the issue of traffic and roads problems.
I would liked to have got this up and running before the Nominations for the new administration of the Cullen and Deskford Community Council, but the opening of nominations is the 6th October and is very close. We will have to wait and see how many people come forward for that.
Hope that helps.
Les Tarr, Community Councillor
