Would like to see a 20 mph zone in Cullen

Cullen & Deskford Community Council would like to hear your views on the idea of introducing a 20 mph speed limit on Seafield Street, in line with Moray Council’s wider approach to slower, safer town centres. As part of the engagement around the A98 crossing many people expressed a view on having a 20 mph zone

Seafield Street is one of Cullen’s busiest routes — used by residents, visitors, school traffic, and local businesses — so it’s important we understand how a reduced speed limit might affect safety, accessibility, and day‑to‑day life

What do you think?

  • Would a 20 mph zone make Seafield Street feel safer for walking, crossing, or cycling?
  • Do you feel the current speed is appropriate, or does it need to change?
  • How might this impact residents, businesses, or visitors?
  • Any specific spots you feel are a concern?

Your feedback will help shape the Community Council’s response to Moray Council’s proposals.

Let’s make sure Cullen’s voice is heard.

  1. The concern isn’t over the speed limit. The issue is the traffic island and high kerbing outside the Mini Market. This makes the road narrow and dangerous, bringing pedestrians very close to oncoming traffic. It also severely restricts parking in the area and negatively affects the many local businesses who rely on adequate parking for their customers.

    • Euan. Thanks for this. last year we ran a public consultation on the !98 crossing and lots of issues such as you raise here were mentioned. The Community Council now that we are past the handover period will be starting a project to look at and work towards improving the traffic situation. I hope that you would consider getting involved as we will be looking towards residents to help out. Les Tarr Chairperson CDCC

  2. I don’t think it’s a good idea it will cause frustrated drivers and mistakes will be made. Maybe a zebra crossing would be better in area where children and the elderly cross
